If pressure does not rise to the specified psi, there are two possible causes, a worn pump or a defective
relief valve.

Have someone raise the vehicle engine speed about 800 to 1000 rpm while you watch the gauge. If the
pressure rises somewhat as the engine is speeded up, the cause is most likely the pump.

If there is no rise in the pressure when engine speed is increased, the main relief valve should be
suspected.
