STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY S-SERIESInstallation1.With front wheels in a straight ahead position,install the steering wheel with the narrow spoke(with the word "top") at the 12 o’clock position.Install the steering wheel mounting nut andtighten to recommended torque (seeSPECIFICATIONS).2.Install the slip ring retainer screws.3.Install the retainer ring.4.Connect the horn wire to the horn button andinstall the horn button.5.Connect the negative battery terminal.STEERING COLUMN - CONVENTIONAL CABRemoval(Refer to Figure 2,1.Disconnect the negative battery terminal cable.2.On vehicles with the universal joint steering shaftassembly, remove the pinch bolt from the yokeat the steering gear (Figures 23.Remove the steering wheel as previouslyoutlined and install the steering wheel mountingnut to prevent the steering column from slidingout of the steering column housing.4.Remove the steering column trim cover.5.Remove the electrical connectors and wiringfrom the steering column housing.6.Remove the screws attaching the steeringcolumn rubber seal to the dash panel.7.Remove the bolts attaching the steering columnhousing to the steering column support bracket.Tilt the steering column assembly to the side andremove it from the vehicle.8.Remove the steering wheel mounting nut, andremove the steering shaft assembly, bushing,washer, flatwashers and spring.Installation1.Assemble the steering shaft assembly, spring,flatwashers, washer and bushing and install inthe steering column housing. Install the steeringwheel mounting nut temporarily.2.Guide the lower portion of the steering columnassembly through the opening in the dash panel.On vehicles with universal joint steering shaftassemblies, position the shaft assembly on thesteering gear. On vehicles with the shellcoupling steering shaft assembly, position theshaft assembly on the lower steering columnshaft.3.Install the bolts attaching the steering columnhousing to the steering column support bracketand tighten to recommended torque (seeSPECIFICATIONS).4.Install the screws attaching the steering columnrubber seal to the dash panel.5.Install the electrical connectors and wiring in thesteering column housing.6.Install the steering column trim cover.7.Install the steering wheel as previously outlined.8.On vehicles with the universal joint steering shaftassemblies, install the nut and bolt in the yokeassembly and tighten to recommended torque.On vehicles with the shell coupling steeringshaft, install the U-bolt and clamp and tighten theattaching nuts to recommended torque. Refer toLower Column Shell Coupling Adjustment andSPECIFICATIONS in this Section.9.Install the battery negative terminal and close thehood.CTS-4150Y - Page 3
