SERVICE MANUALINTRODUCTIONIntroductionDESCRIPTIONThe cylinder head is a one piece, iron alloy casting with asix bolt pattern around each cylinder which assurespositive head gasket sealing. The camshaft is a steel forging with induction hardenedlobes. It is a "Polydyne" design camshaft which meansthat valve travel speed is reduced just before valveseating to allow gentle seating of valves. As a result ofthis "Polydyne" design camshaft, superior valve life canbe achieved. The lubrication system in the Turbocharged 400 seriesengines addresses the problem of on-the-spotimmediate cooling with twelve oil cooling jets installed inthe main bearing webs, two per cylinder. These coolingjets facilitate piston and wrist pin cooling, thus eliminatingthe possibility of heat build-up in these hardworking highfriction areas.CGES- 185-3*PRINTED IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICAPage 4
