HOW TO INSTALL YOUR AQUA PROBE DIGITALDEPTH INSTRUMENTAll Aqua Probe digital depth instruments-the models No.530, No. 550 and No. 540 remote-can be bracket-mounted on a surface, such as the top of an instrumentpanel, or hanging from the overhead, with the U-shapedmounting bracket and hardware which is provided.All Aqua Probe digitals also can be mounted in a panel,or on a bulkhead, using the adapter flange and bracketwhich is also provided with all units.BRACKET MOUNTPANEL MOUNTING: To install your Aqua Probe digitalthrough the face of an instrument panel or bulkhead, youneed a flat area 7" wide by 3 7/8" high for the flange andunit face. Additionally, you'll need enough clearancebehind the panel or bulkhead for the case of the depthinstrument (3 1/2") plus cable connections.First, you will need to remove the U-bracket. Thenattach the panel mounting adapter flange to the face ofthe depth instrument. using the pan-head machinescrews which are provided. before you attempt toposition the unit in the bulkhead.MOUNTING LOCATION: You do not have to beconcerned about locating your new Aqua Probe in closeproximity to your compass. There are no magneticcircuits and there will be no discernible effect on thecompass' performance. However, the unit should bepositioned in such a way that you will have easy accessto the operating controls and switches. Naturally, youwill make sure you have a direct view of the LCDreadout. All hardware necessary for mounting (see list,page 6) is provided.WIRING: Aqua probe digital depth units are providedwith a power cord which should be connected to theship's power (12V-DC, negative ground) thru a fuse, notprovided. See FUSE paragraph on page six. It thenmust be plugged into the power connector on the back ofthe unit The RED identified power cord lead isconnected to the POSITIVE (+ ) terminal of the ship'sbattery. The BLACK lead is NEGATIVE (-).POLARITY PROTECTION: Protection against damagefrom reverse polarity has been built right into all theAqua Probe units. Therefore, should these leads bereverse-connected in error, the No. 550 and No. 530depthfinders will NOT OPERATE; they also will not bedamaged.CAUTION: Since the model No. 540 remote digitaldepth instrument is to be used in conjunction withanother main depthfinder, there will be a ground-to-ground connection between the two instrumentsthrough the jumper cable shield. Therefore, anerroneously-reversed polarity power connection oneither unit COULD CAUSE DAMAGE to it or theother. To avoid this: turn on each unit and makesure it is functioning properly BEFOREINTERCONNECTING THE TWO WITH THE JUMPERCABLE.
