SERVICE MANUALROBERT BOSCH MODEL MW INJECTION PUMPSection 11Engine Stop (No Delivery)To stop the engine, plungers are rotated so that verticalslots (stop slots) are in line with barrel ports. As plungermoves up and down, fuel is transferred back and forthfrom top of plunger through vertical sl6ts into charginggallery. The ports do not close, thus, no delivery.Plungers are rotated to the various metering positions bythe control rack. Rack movement is controlled by theshutoff lever to stop the engine.Figure 15. - Metering Positions1.Start Position (Charging Port Closed)2.Idle Position (Charging Port Closed)3.Full Load Position (Charging Port Closed)4.Stop Position (Charging Port Open)5.Effective Stroke6.Charging Port PositionEXTERNAL INJECTION PUMP CONTROLS(Figure 16)Prior to starting the engine, the injection pump shutofflever must be moved to the "run" position. this lever ismoved to the "run" position from the "shutoff" position byan engine mounted electric shutoff or by a pull cable. Anelectric shutoff is standard on some engines such asin the Cargostar. DT- 466C truck engines which wereoriginally equipped with a cable shutoff, can beconverted to an electric shutoff in the field.During injection pump calibration, the "shut- off" leverposition is established by positioning the shutoff leveradjusting screw. The shutoff screw should not be movedafter calibration because fuel delivery might not becompletely stopped or the internal rack might be bent.Electric shutoff and cable linkage adjustments must alsoallow full control rack travel when the shutoff lever shouldbe in the "run" position. Follow the linkage adjustmentprocedures in the on-engine repairs section to ensure fullrack travel during engine operation.Driver accelerator pedal movements are transmittedthrough a cable to the engine. Depending upon engineapplication, the cable is connected directly to theinjection pump control lever or to engine mountedlinkage which is connected to the control lever at fullpedal depression, the control lever must contact the highidle stop to allow full rack travel and maximum enginepower output.Figure 16. - External Injection Pump ControlsThe high idle stop is sealed at the engine productionplant. Adjustments to high idle speed should be made inaccordance with existing warranty policies. High idlespeed can only be raised a small amount by adjustingthe high idle screw even if the screw is completelyremoved.CGES-185-3PRINTED IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICAPage 13
