(The injection pump isdriven at one-half engine speed. Therefore, each time the injection pump hub mark isaligned with injection pump timing pointer, engine should be on number one cylindercompression stroke).NOTE: If engine gear train was disassembled, verifythat engine is positioned at number onecylinder compression stroke by:a.Removing valve cover.b.Observing that number one cylinder intakeand exhaust valve levers are loose.c.If number one cylinder valve levers are notloose, rotate engine one complete revolutionto approximately 90 degrees before top deadcenter.5.Turn engine slowly in normal direction of rotationuntil timing mark on hub is aligned with injectionpump timing pointer (observe through mountingadapter, Figure 19). If engine is turned pasttiming mark, rotate engine counterclockwise atleast 90 degrees to remove gear train backlash.Rotate engine until timing mark and pump timingpointer are aligned.CGES-185-3PRINTED IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICAPage 15
