SERVICE MANUALInstall spring washer, if applicable, to the drivegear and shaft (5) with the convex surface facing thedrive gear. Install parking cam (8) on drive gear andshaft assembly(5). Face dotted end of cam in samedirection as was noted in "Disassembly."Place drive gear and shaft assembly (5) in driveend housing bushing bore. Install spacer washer andcrank arm. Install nut and tighten to a torque of 55-60 in.lbs. Be certain to support crank arm while tightening nutto prevent stripping gear teeth (see "Disassembly").Install gasket (10) and parking switch contactplate (9). Position drive end housing cover (11) on thedrive end housing (3) and insert retaining screws. Installmounting bracket (2) on drive end housing (3).TESTINGBefore installing the windshield wiper motor onthe vehicle, check the operation of the unit as follows:Be certain that the required crank arm or driveplate and spacing washers are assembled to the driveshaft when testing the motor.Fig. 11. Connect theremaining battery terminal and the wiper motor wiringharness to a control switch as follows: Connect redcable to "A" terminal, green cable to "F" terminal, blackcable to "P" terminal, and remaining battery cable to "B"terminal. The wiper motor should meet specificationswhen operated through control switch. If not, tapcommutator end frame lightly with a rawhide mallet tomake certain that the armature is aligned. If unit stilldoes not meet specifications, it will be necessary todisassemble the unit to locate the trouble.INSTALLATIONPlace wiper motor in position and insert boltsholding motor and bracket assembly to cowl. Connectwiper arm Linkage. Connect wiring harness to controlswitch.ADJUSTING AUTOMATIC PARKINGThe wiper blade parking position should beadjusted after the motor has been installed in the vehicle.Adjust parking as follows:Operate motor through control switch. Whenswitch is turned to "OFF" position, motor should stop withLinkage fully extended. If necessary, this position can beobtained by adjusting the parking stud which protrudesthrough the drive end housing cover. Install the wiperarm and blade to the wiper arm shaft assembly so thatthe blade is in the desired parking position. Operate thewiper and note the automatic parking position of theblades when the unit is turned off. If the blades do notnow park in the required position, readjust by moving theparking stud.LUBRICATIONDuring reassembly, apply two or three drops ofSAE-10 oil to the armature shaft bushing felts.Place 1/3 ounce of Lubri-Plate Aero Lubricant orits equivalent in the drive end housing worm cavity. Nolubricant should be placed between the gear andhousing. If the housing has two bushings in the crankarm shaft bore, fill the space between the bushings withthe above specified lubricant.Fill groove in gear and shaft assembly withlubricant, if applicable. Apply a thin film of lubricant tothe cam, spring washer and spacing washer. Apply athin film of Lubri-Plate No. 10 or its equivalent to theconnecting link bushings.Fill the space between the bushings in the innerspacer with Lubri-Plate Aero Lubricant or its equivalent.CTS-4056-Chapter IIPRINTED IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICAPage 5
