MUFFLERTHISTASKCOVERS:a.Removalb.InstallationTools Required:Equipment Conditions:Nomenclature:RefConditionsGeneral Mechanics2-22 Engine shut offTool Kit4-56 Engine housing removeda.Removal.WARNINGBe sure exhaust system has cooled before starting work.(1)Remove cover (1) from muffler (2) before removing housing.(2)Remove two screws (3), and flat washers (4) holding muffler (2) to side of exhaust manifold.(3)Remove two screws (5) and lockwashers (6) holding muffler (2) to top of exhaust manifold. Remove gasket (7).(4)Remove muffler (2) from manifold.b.Installation.(1)Install muffler (2) and gasket (7) on exhaust manifold.(2)Secure muffler (2) to flange on top of manifold with screws (5) and lockwashers (6).(3)Secure muffler (2) to side of manifold with flat washers (4) and screws (5). Tighten screws(5) to a torque of 39 Ib-ft (52 Nm) (wet).(4)Secure deflector cover (1) to muffler (2) after installing engine housing.(5)Refer to para. 4-56 and install engine housing.4-118
