TM 5-3895-370-14&P(3)Perform starter solenoid ammeter test.(a)Connect positive battery cable to one sideof the ammeter and the negative batterycable to solenoid ground.WARNINGEnsure switch is open prior toconnecting to starter solenoid.Electrical shock may result ifsolenoid is energized while makingfinal battery connection.CAUTIONTo prevent overheating, do not leavepull-in winding energized more than15 seconds. Current draw willdecrease as winding temperatureincreases.(b)Connect switch leads to ammeter and solenoid switch terminal (S).(c)Connect voltmeter leads to solenoid ground and solenoid switch terminal (S).(d)Connect potentiomet er across positive and negative battery terminals.(e)Close switch to operate starter and adjust potentiometer until voltmeter indicates 24 Vdc.(f)Observe ammeter reading. If reading is below or above 105 to 115 amps, replace starter solenoid.5-103
