Inspection.

Inspect piston rod (3) for scratches, dents and corrosion.

Inspect gland (5) for scratches and dents. Inspect for damaged rod wiper seat.
Inspect cylinder head (2) rod seal seat for scratches, nicks and corrosion.

Repair. Replace damaged components.

Assembly.
CAUTION
Do not use screwdriver or hard metal tools to remove rod seal. Steel tools can
damage sealing surfaces, causing premature failure of cylinder.

Install rod wiper (6) in gland (5). Be careful not to damage seal during installation.
Install rod seal (4) in cylinder head (2). Open end of seal must face in toward cylinder tube.
Install gland (5) in retainer plate (7).
Position retainer plate (7) and attached gland on cylinder head (2).
Install four cap screws (8).
Flush out hydraulic cylinder with clean, fresh hydraulic fluid. Install protective plugs.
