SERVICE MANUAL17.Install seal ring (12) in lower body and securelower body to upper body using four hex headcapscrews and lockwashers; torque capscrewsto 7.9 - 11.3 N.m (70 - 100 in lbs).18.Install treadle assembly to basic brake valveusing three 5/16-18 hex head capscrews andlockwashers; torque to 9 - 11.3 N.m (80 -100 inlbs).19.Test the rebuilt E6 dual brake valve byperforming operation and leakage tests out-lined in SERVICE CHECKS.DISASSEMBLYSuspended Pedal Type Valve (17))Refer to Fig. 9 for numbers in parenthesis.1.Remove three capscrews and pedal assembly.2.Apply force on retainer, disengage locking tabsfrom body and remove retainer (7).3.Grasp lock nut (5) of lower static pistonassembly (10) with pliers and pull pistonassembly from body (12).4.Fasten a hook from a 152 mm (6") piece of .125mm (1/8") diameter wire (approx.), bending oneend 90 degrees at a length 12.7 to 19.mm (1/2"to 3/4") from end of wire. Insert hook end inbore of body and through secondary inlet valveexhaust bore hooking onto valve. Pull firmly andremove upper static piston (15) assembly withsecondary inlet and exhaust valve (16).5.Apply firm pressure on spring seat (6) which willcompress primary piston spring (11). Lockinggroove (20) in piston is now accessible throughrectangular opening in body. Insert wire onscrewdriver into locking groove, thus holdingprimary piston spring (11) in compressedposition.6.Insert blade of screwdriver through exhaustpassage of secondary and primary pistons andinto slot of stem (1). Back off locking nut (5).7.Remove locking nut (5), spring stem guide (4)and stem spring (3).8.Remove spring seat nut (2), spring seat (6) andrubber spring (9) using same type procedure asitem 6.9.Removal of screwdriver or wire from lockinggroove will permit spring load to push outprimary piston (8) and relay piston (13).Care should be used when removing tool from lockingring because of spring load.10.Remove primary piston (8) and return spring(11), and relay piston (13) and return spring (14).11.Remove stem (1) and O-rings from relay andprimary pistons.12.Remove O-rings from upper static piston (15)and lower static piston (10).13.Remove large retaining ring (17) from lowerstatic piston and remove primary inlet/exhaustvalve assembly (18). Disassembly of inlet andexhaust valve is not required since it is onlyserviced as an assembly.14.Remove large retaining ring (19) from upperstatic piston assembly (15) and removesecondary inlet/exhaust valve assembly (16).CLEANING AND INSPECTIONWash all metal parts in cleaning solvent and dry them.Inspect all parts for excessive wear or deterioration.Inspect valve seats for nicks or burrs. Check springs forcracks or corrosion. Replace all rubber parts and anypart not consideredREASSEMBLYSuspended Pedal Type Valve (17)Before starting to reassemble brake valve lubricate all O-rings, O-ring grooves, piston bores and metal movingparts with Item 1 in LUBRICANT SPECIFICATIONS.Refer to Fig. 9 for numbers in parenthesis.1.Install new secondary inlet/exhaust valveassembly (16) in upper static piston (15) andsecure with retainer ring (19) making certainretaining ring is engaged in groove of upperstatic piston bore.2.Install O-ring on upper static piston assemblyand install in body of valve.3.Install primary inlet/exhaust valve assembly (18)in lower static piston (10) and secure withretainer ring (17) making certain retaining ring isengaged in goove in lower static piston (10).4.Install three O-rings in grooves of lower staticpiston assembly (10). The larger diameter O-ringis installed in groove nearest to bottom of pistonassembly.CTS-4079 - CHAPTER IV - Page 9
