VII. DIFFERENTIAL CARRIERA.Removal of Differential Carrier from AxleAll service of the differential carrier assemblyrequires removal of the assembly from the axle housing.1.Remove the drain plugs and drain lubricant fromaxle housing.2.Disconnect propeller shaft at pinion yoke.3.Refer to Section IV-F, and remove both inneraxle shafts.4.Attach differential carrier to a suitable roller jack.(See fig. 42).5.Remove capscrews and nuts holding differentialcarrier to axle housing.6.Roll differential carrier away from the axle. (Seefig. 43).B.Installation of Differential Carrier to Axle1.Refer to the Differential Carrier Service Manualfor detailed service procedures.2.Apply a bead of liquid sealant to the differentialmounting face. See Service Bulletin 738 407,page 22. Apply in the same manner as shownfor the axle flanges, a bead and a ring aroundeach bolt hole.3.Position the differential carrier in the axlehousing with a suitable roller jack, (See fig. 43),picking up two locating studs.4.Install differential carrier capscrews and studnuts. Tighten to the correct torque. Fig. 435.Connect the propeller shaft.6.Assemble the Steerable Drive Ends as outlinedin Section VI.7.Install the drain plug and fill the axle to thebottom edge of the level hole with theappropriate lubricant.8.Install the level plug.Fig. 42Fig. 43-20-
