VI. STEERABLE DRIVE END ASSEMBLY4.Apply a bead of liquid sealant to the axle housingflange. See Service Bulletin 738 407, Page 22.Install the suspension yoke with hardenedwashers and locknuts.Tighten to specifiedtorque.5.Install a new o-ring and a new upper kingpinbearing (if needed) into the upper kingpinbracket. Apply a light coat of lubricant to theinside of the socket and to the ball section of theupper kingpin ball stud. Insert the ball studthrough the bearing and bracket and into thetapered hole in the suspension yoke. Install theplain washer and the locknut. Tighten to thespecified torque.6.Assemble the inner axle yoke spacer ring on theinner axle shaft against the shoulder behind thespline. Install the inner drive yoke, (without thepressed-on bearing race) onto the spline.Fig. 317.Install the short (1-3/4 long) bolt into a new sealing washer, through the retaining washer, andinto the shaft end, tightening to specified torque.8.Apply lubricant to the inner drive yoke hub area.Insert the proper inner drive yoke shaft assemblythrough the suspension yoke.(See fig. 24).CAUTION MUST BE TAKEN TO AVOIDDAMAGING THE INNER DRIVE YOKE SEALASSEMBLY. Rotate the inner drive yoke shaftassembly until it engages the side gears on thedifferential assembly, continue to slide the shaftinward until it engages the seal assembly. Careshould be exercised to prevent damage to theprimary seal lip and to insure the drive yoke hubis seated in the bronze bearing portion of theseal without distorting the large rubberdiaphragm section of the floating seal.Fig. 32Fig. 33Fig. 34-16·
