SERVICE MANUALTIMING, GEAR TRAIN & FRONT COVERSection 7Prior to removing the crankcase front cover it will benecessary to remove "other equipment" (i.e. alternator,air and freon compressor, steering and vacuum pumpetc.), depending upon the application. Refer to theOperator’s Manual and Service Manual to determinelocal needs.When the Front Cover is free of applicableaccessories remove it as follows:NOTE: Observe the variations which exist betweenthe Agricultural Equipment, Payline and Truckgroups.1.Engines with "RUBBER"* vibration dampersshould be checked for wobble before removing.a.Attach a dial indicator to the vibrationdamper flange as shown in Fig. 7.b.Check at least four points 90 apart.c.If wobble exceeds 1.5 mm (0.06 in.) totalindicator reading, replace the damper.* Damper is not made of rubber, rather it has a rubberinsert.Figure 7. - Checking "Rubber" Damper for Wobble2.Remove "RUBBER" vibration damper as follows:a.Remove the cap screws, damper plate (ifequipped) and retainer plate securing thevibration damper to the crankshaft.b.Engines equipped with the Three-HoleDamper (1, Fig. 8) must use the puller 89-10-17 (2) for early Agricultural and PaylineEquipment as shown in Fig. 8.NOTE: It Is necessary to modify the puller bolt holeswith a file to match the bolt pattern of the damperhub.Figure 8. - Puller Installed on Three HoleVibration Damper1.Vibration damper2.Puller (89-10-17)c.Late model Agricultural equipment requiresthe puller 04-33-3 (2, Fig. 9) to remove thevibration damper (1) as shown.CGES-185-3PRINTED IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICAPage 5
