SERVICE MANUAL6.Weld one pass around cover (360 degree) insidehousing using same weld rod as above.7.Remove all weld splatter and slag from inside ofhousing and return housing to service.LUBRICATIONDraining And Refilling InstructionsTo drain axle lubricant from forward axle and powerdivider, remove drain plugs from bottom of axle housingand bottom of the power divider intermediate case.To drain the rear rear axle, remove the drain plugfrom the axle housing. To fill the forward rear axle, make sure all drainplugs are tight. Pour 0.5 liter (1 pint)of lubricant into thepower divider at plug on top of inter-axle diff cover. Fillaxle housing to the level of filler hole.To fill rear rear axle, make sure all drain plugs aretight. Fill to level of filler hole. On initial lubrication ofnew or rebuilt axles, pour 0.5 liter (1 pint) of lubricant intopinion bearing cage at filler plug provided in differentialcarrier. To assure initial lubrication of rebuilt axleassemblies, it is recommended that the axles be "run-in"to distribute the lubricant. This is accomplished byraising and securely blocking all rear wheels off the floorand operating the axles at medium speed forapproximately two to three minutes. After running inaxles, recheck lubricant level.Slip JointsThe propeller shaft slip joint splines must be free toslip as required to compensate for articulation of theaxles. Keep slip joints lubricated. When operating underdusty, wet or muddy conditions, more frequent lubricationof the propeller shaft may be required. Inspect slip yokedust seals and replace worn or damaged seals toprevent entry of dirt or moisture which might causebinding or seizing of slip joint splines.SPECIALTOOLSSE-1065-APinion GaugeSE-1065-64Pinion Gauge DiscsSE-1905Remove and Installer SetSE-1933Torque Multiplier WrenchSE-2024Installer ToolSE-2222Riveting FixtureSE-2247Bearing Nut WrenchCTS-4044PRINTED IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICAPage 28
