ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC TEST PROCEDURESSection 6LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT: (With Bellcrank) Refer toFigure 5a for Version "I" Linkage, Figure 5b forVersion "II" Linkage and Figures 5b and 5c forVersion "III" Linkage.IMPORTANTBALL JOINTS AND BELLCRANKSHAFT MUST ROTATE FREELYWITHOUT BINDING OR STICKING.THE BALL JOINTS, BELLCRANKSHAFT, BORE AND BUSHINGINSERTS MUST BE FREE OF PAINT,GREASE, OIL, DIRT, RUST, OR ANYOTHER FOREIGN MATERIAL. CLEANOR REPLACE PARTS IF NECESSARY.IMPORTANTMAKE THE FOLLOWINGADJUSTMENTS AFTER ENGINE HASBEEN RUN-IN AND INJECTION PUMPHAS BEEN SET.Version "I" Linkage With Standard RegulationGovernor (Figure 5a)1.Postion bellcrank bracket and control lever asfollows:a.Locate bellcrank shaft centerline 15.82" +0.06" from front finish of flywheel housing(cranking motor pad). Loosen bracketmounting hardware for this adjustment ifrequired.b.Insert 3/16" dia. (1.875" drill) gauge pinthrough the holes (17, Figure 5a) of thebellcrank bracket and control lever.2.Assemble throttle lever on pump shaft. Do NOTposition lever in shaft groove.a.With pump shaft in low idle position, relocate the pump lever to gaugedimension shown in Figure 5a.Do not force lever into over-travel for thispositioning (Figure 5b).b.Spacer (23, Figure 5a) must be installed onthe lever clamping bolt inside the lever slotto prevent lever breakage. Tightenclamping bolt to 55 Ibf-in. (27, Figure 5a).3.Install control rod assembly as follows:a.Hold injection pump lever against low idlestop (do not force pump lever into over-travel position).WARNINGExposed threads above either control rod nutmust not exceed 0.42 in. (29, Figure 5a).b.Position the control rod ends so that the balljoint banjo face is aligned parallel with levermounting face. Then tighten the control rodnuts.c.Remove gauge pin.4.Observe operation of linkage:a.Rotate control lever counterclockwise fromlow idle to high idle and past high idle tomax. over-travel.b.Observe max. over-travel at the injectionpump lever. The injection pump lever tangbottoms in the lever slot when max. over-travel is reached. DO NOT force beyondthis point. Pump lever, pump, or linkagecomponents will be damaged if excessiveforce is used.c.Release the control lever and let the springsreturn the linkage to low idle.d.Repeat 4a thru 4c two more times. Iflinkage has been properly adjusted, thelinkage will return to low idle position. Thegauge holes will be aligned and theinjection pump lever tang will be centered inthe slot.IMPORTANTBEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE,ENTER THE OPERATOR’SCOMPARTMENT AND DEPRESS THETHROTTLE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMESTO CHECK FOR SMOOTH ACTIONAND FULL RETURN OF THETHROTTLE LEVER & THROTTLEPEDAL. THIS MUST BE DONEANYTIME COMPONENTS AREREPLACED, REASSEMBLED ORADJUSTED.CGES-240-4Printed in United States of AmericaPage 12
