REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS USING FIBER GLASS MATERIAL6.Using a grinder, cut down the welds or rivetheads flush with the exterior surface of the repairarea.7.To complete the repair, use the procedure forSurface Filling and Finishing (page 16).DENTS1.Perform the steps listed under PreparationProcedure (page 5).2.Clean metal to the bare surface.3.Drill or punch 1/2 inch holes in the dent to assurea good anchor for the filler (Figure 52).Figure 52. - Repairing Dents4.If the dent is over 1 inch, cover dent with a pieceof fiber glass cloth and saturate it with resinmixture. Allow the resin to cure.5.To complete the repair, use the procedure forSurface Filling and Finishing (page 16).SURFACE FILLING AND FINISHINGAfter repairing the damaged area, apply filler and finishthe surface using this procedure:1.Following the manufacturer’s instructions, mixenough body filler to re-establish the surface.CAUTION-MIX FILLER ON FORMICA,TEFLON OR OTHER HARD SURFACE. DONOT WORK ON A POROUS SURFACE SUCHAS CARDBOARD.2.Work the filler into the repaired surface with asqueegee, making sure to fill all voids andremove large air bubbles (Figure 53).NOTE - Allow filler to extend above theoriginal surface to allow for shrinkage.Figure 53. - Applying Body Filler3.When the filler is firm to the touch, plane and/orfile off the excess, still leaving the filler levelslightly above that of the original surface (Figure54).Figure 54. - Filling Repaired Surface4.Now, pre-shrink the filler, using a heat gun orheat lamp.
