LUBRICATING SYSTEM - L.3As the pump rotors rotate, the pockets formedbetween the rotor lobes increase and then decrease involume to propel the oil from the suction side to thepressure side of the pump.To Remove the Oil Pump1.Remove the sump securing setscrews andwithdraw the sump from the engine. Removethe strainer from the suction pipe of the oil pump(see Fig. L.2). With lowline engines, the sumpstrainer is of a different pattern to that shown inFig. L.2. but its removal is similar.2.Disconnect and remove the suction pipe.3.Disconnect and remove the oil delivery pipebetween the pump and relief valve housing.4.Remove the crankshaft pulley, timing case frontcover, timing gearsand timing case asdescribed in the appropriate section.5.Remove the idler gear circlip and idler gear (seeFigs. L.3 and L.4).6.Remove the three setscrews securing the pumpto No. 1 Main bearing cap and with draw thepump from the cap (see Fig. L.5).Fig. L.2.Removing Sump Strainer from Oil Pump Suction Pipe.Fig. L.3.Removing the Oil Pump Idler Gear Retaining Circlip. To Dismantle the Oil Pump1.With the pump assembly suitably held in a viceremove the oil pump drive gear retaining circlip(where fitted) and using a suitable extractorremove the drive gear.Fig. L.4.Removing the Oil Pump Idler Gear
