Removing retainer from Snap RingDISASSEMBLYIf the starting motor does not perform according to thespecifications it will be necessary to disassemble it forfurther tests of the components.NOTE: Before starting to disassemble the startingmotor etch mark the field frame, lever housing andthe nose housing so they may be reassembled in thesame position.IntermediateDutyDriveClutchMotor1Disconnect field coil connector from solenoid motorterminal and remove solenoid mounting screws.2Remove the through bolts.3Remove commutator end frame from field frame andframe from lever housing.4Remove the nose housing bolts and separate thelever housing and nose housing.5Remove the pinion from the armature by sliding ametal cylinder onto the shaft. With a hammer strikethe metal cylinder against the retainer, drive theretainer towards the armature core and off the snapring, Fig. 10.6Remove the snap ring from the groove in thearmature shaft.
