ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS Section 4CREATIVE TOOL MODEL CT-4000 DIESEL TIMINGAND TACHOMETER INSTRUMENT (SE-2783) OR(3005A) CURRENT MODEL(Continued)OPERATING PROCEDURES (Continued)6.Connect the lead (4, Figure 7) provided to couplethe tachometer and timing light unit (SE-2783) or(3005A) to the white coaxial cable at the 14 mmSplit-Nut Transducer (2, Figure 7).7.Start the engine. Check for fuel leaks.8.Perform the speed and timing checks as follows:(See KEYBOARD DESCRIPTION, this section).a.Depress the "RST" (Reset) key.NOTE: If it is already depressed, release anddepress. SE-2783 or 3005A should be "powered up"at this point, as indicated by the "- - - -" appearing inthe digital display.b.Depress and release the "TST" (TEST) keyon the keyboard to place the SE-2783 or3005A in the operational mode. "8888"appearing in the digital display indicates theunit is operational and a signal is beingreceived from the transducer. "- - - - -" onthe digital display indicates:1.The transducer is disconnected.2.The unit is NOT functioning properly.3.The appearance of any other characteror number at this time means the unitis not functioning properly.NOTE: Once the SE-2783 or 3005A has been placedin the operational mode, any of the functions can beselected.c.Depress and release the "RPM" key. Theinstrument is now in the RPM mode.Engine speed will be displayed on thedigital readout. Adjust engine speed to 700RPM as shown in the PERFORMANCEDATA GUIDELINES, Section 6.d.Depress and release the "ADV" key. Theinstrument is now in the ADVANCE mode.Set ADVANCE mode to double zero (00).Depress "STB-ON" key to activate thestrobe light. Aim the strobe light and in-crease advance mode (by one increment ata time) using the " " key until TDC markand front cover pointer align. When themarks are in alignment, release the " "key. The actual timing will be shown on thedisplay.IMPORTANTWHENEVER CHANGING ENGINESPEEDS, DEPRESS THE " "BUTTON TO REACH DOUBLE ZERO(00) ON THE DISPLAY BEFOREPROCEEDING.e.Depress the "RPM" key and increaseengine RPM to total pump timing speed, asspecified in PERFORMANCE DATAGUIDELINES, Section 6.f.With the ADVANCE mode reset to doublezero (00), increase the ADVANCE mode (byone increment at a time) using the " " keyuntil the TDC mark and front cover pointeralign. When marks are in alignment, release the " " key. The injection pumptiming (Degrees of Advance) will appear onthe digital display. Compare readings withspecifications.NOTE: Do not exceed specified maximum totalpump timing speed (RPM).IMPORTANTIF THERE IS A QUESTION OF TIMINGLIGHT ACCURACY FLOW TIME THEPUMP AS DESCRIBED IN SECTION 5.FLOW TIMING IS ACCOMPLISHEDWITH- OUT REMOVING THE PUMPDELIVERY VALVE.CGES-240-4Printed in United States of AmericaPage 10
