TM 5-3825-229-14&P4-46. SERVICE ENGINE (cont)a.Changeoil.(1)Place drain pan under drain plug.(2)Remove drain plug (1). Discard or recycledrained oil.(3)Install drain plug (1) and tighten securely. Do notovertighten.(4)Remove oil filter element (2) and install newelement.(5)Fill crankcase with correct type of oil (see para 3-2).CAUTIONDo not start pump engine unless distributor pumpis primed. Refer to para. 4-16 to prime pump.(6)Run engine. Check for oil leaks around filterelement and drain plug.(7)Stop engine so that oil can drain down. Check oillevel: oil level should be at FULL mark.Changing Engine Oilb.CheckOilLevel.(1)Remove dipstick (3) from dipstick tube (4) andwipe oil from dipstick.(2)Insert dipstick and remove again.(3)Oil on dipstick should read between ADD andFULL marks. If oil is at or below ADD mark, addoil until dipstick reads FULL.(4)Insert dipstick back into engine.c.Drainantifreeze.(1)Make sure engine is level to ensure completedraining.Checking Oil LevelWARNINGPressurized coolants have higher boiling point than water. NEVER open radiator filler cap whencoolant temperature is above 212°F (100C) or while engine is running.4-90
