Sectional View of Starting Motor with Heavy Duty Sprag ClutchTROUBLE SHOOTING THE STARTING CIRCUITWhen trouble develops in the starting motor system,and the starter motor cranks the engine slowly or not atall, several preliminary checks can be made to determinewhether the trouble is in the battery, starting motor,wiring circuit between them, or elsewhere. Manyconditions besides defects in the motor can result in poorcranking performance.To obtain full performance from a starting motor or todetermine the cause of abnormal operation, the motorshould be subjected to one or more of the following tests.These tests are performed with the starter motorremoved from the engine.
