IV. STEERABLE DRIVE END DISASSEMBLY9.Lift the hub (or hub and drum assembly) off thespindle (See fig. 17) using care to avoid damageto the bearing surfaces and to the threads. Wipeoff any oil that may have reached the brake shoebefore it reaches the lining. 10.Do not remove the axle shaft studs unlessreplacing them. 11.Remove the hub seal from the hub and discard.12.Remove the inner wheel bearing cone andprotect it from dirt. 13.Cover the spindle with a clean shop rag toprotect it from damage. 14.Press wheel bearing cups from hub, ifreplacement is necessary. THIS IS THE LIMIT OF WHAT MAY BECALLED ROUTINE DISASSEMBLY. ITALLOWS ACCESS TO THE BRAKES FORRELINING AND TO THE WHEEL BEARINGSFOR REPACKING. DISASSEMBLY BEYONDTHIS POINT MIGHT BE REQUIRED TOREPLACE DAMAGED OR BROKEN PARTS.C.Brake and Wheel Spindle Disassembly1.12-point capscrews retain the brake assemblyand the spindle to the spindle yoke (See fig. 1 8).Make provisions for supporting the brakeassembly in a place that will protect the brakehose or disconnect the brake hose.
