SERVICE MANUALWATER PUMP, THERMOSTAT & IDLER PULLEYSSection 9REASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATIONReassemble and Install the Fan Idler Pulley (withFront Ball Bearing and Rear Roller Bearing) asfollows:IMPORTANT: When rebuilding the fan idler bracket,it is necessary to use the Pilot Tool (PLT-561 or SE-4038) on the end of the idler pulley shaft wheninstalling it in the idler bracket. Use of the tool willensure accurate entry of the inner race into the rollerbearing assembly, without damage on DT-466engines.Pilot tool is in effect starting on DT-466 with engineSerial Number 98453 and up.1.To facilitate removal of the tool, the pipe plughole (1, Fig. 36) in the idler bracket must be enlarged.Drill and tap hole with 57/64 drill to 3/4 inch NPT.Thoroughly clean reworked idler bracket to insure allmachining chips are removed.Figure 36. - Rework of Idler Bracket1.Idler Bracket HoleFigure 37. - Installing Inner Race2.Press inner race of roller bearing onto the shaftuntil it is against the shoulder as shown in Figure37.3.Pack roller bearing rollers with 251 H-EP grease.4.Supporting the base of the idler bracket, pressroller bearing outer race and roller assembly intoidler bracket until it bottoms against bracket asshown in Figure 38.
