Cleaning/Inspection.WARNING·Drycleaning solvent (P-D-680) is TOXIC and flammable. Wear protectivegoggles and gloves; use only in a well-ventilated area; avoid contact with skin,eyes, and clothes and do not breathe vapors. Keep away from heat or flame.Never smoke when using solvent; the flash point for type I drycleaning solventis 100°F (38°C) and for type II is 140°F (60°C). Failure to do so may result ininjury or death to personnel. P-D-680 type III is a substitute for types I and II inthis application. The flash point for type III is 200°F (93°C).·If personnel become dizzy whileusing cleaning solvent,immediately get fresh air andmedical help. If solvent contactsskin or clothes, flush with coldwater. If solvent contacts eyes,immediately flush eyes with waterand get immediate medicalattention.(1)Clean rear cover with drycleaning solvent anddry with lint-free cloth.(2)Check rear cover for cracks and wear. Replacerear cover if damaged.c. Installation.(1)Install preformed packing (8) and oil seal (7) inrear cover (4).NOTEIt may be necessary to trim gasket toaline rear cover with oil pan.(2)Install gasket (5) and rear cover (4) on engineblock (6) with six screws (3). Tighten screws 84lb-in (9 Nm).(3)Install four washers (2) and screws (1). Tightenscrews 18 lb-ft (24 Nm).NOTEFollow-on maintenance:Install flywheel housing (para 5-20).Fill engine with oil (para 4-24).END OF TASK5-42
