TM 5-3895-370-14&P 5-29. ENGINE OIL LUBE PUMP REPLACEMENT. This task covers: a. Removal b. Cleaning/Inspection c. Installation INITIAL SETUP Tools Materials/Parts Shop equipment, automotive maintenance and Oil, engine lubricating (item 33, Appendix E) repair: organizational maintenance supplemental Solvent, drycleaning (item 50, Appendix E) no. 1, less power Rags, wiping (item 47, Appendix E) Shop equipment, automotive maintenance and Equipment Condition repair: organizational maintenance common TM or Para Condition Description no. 1, less power Para 5-25 Gear cover removed. Shop equipment, automotive maintenance and General Safety Instructions repair: field maintenance, supplemental no. 1, Engine block retains extreme heat during less power operation. Allow time for cooling before performing procedure. a. Removal. NOTE Hold adjoining gears to obtain correct backlash measurement. (1) Measure oil pump gear (1) backlash at position A. Normal measurement is 0.003 to 0.013 in. (0.076-0.330 mm). If above or below normal measurement, replace oil pump. (2) Measure idler gear (2) backlash at position B. Normal measurement is 0.003 to 0.013 in. (0.0760.330 mm). If above or below normal measurement, replace oil pump. 5-68
