SR 4 GENERATORDISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY(ALIGNMENT OF SINGLE-BEARING GENERATORSTYPICAL)NOTE: For information or alignmentof two bearing generators makesreference to Form No. SEHS7073.Typical installation and alignment procedure forelectric sets with single-bearing generators. Do not startthe alignment procedure until the electric set ispermanently installed. If the electric set is moved to adifferent location, check the alignment and make anycorrections necessary. The alignment between thegenerator and the engine must be correct to getmaximum performance and long life from the electric set.INSTALLATION OF THE GENERATORREAR OF ENGINEA. Pilot bore. B. Surface.1.Remove all dirt, burrs and paint from the contactsurfaces of the generator supports and the base.FRONT OF ENGINE1. Indicator group. 2. Crankshaft pulley.Remove the protection material (compound) fromtheflywheel pilot bore (A) and from the surface (B ) thatmakes contact with the coupling. All contact surfaces ofthe engine, coupling and generator must be completelyclean.2. Remove the timing pointer cover from the flywheelhousing. Install indicator group (1 ) as shown on thefront of the engine with the tip of the indicator on the faceof crankshaft pulley ( 2). Use a bar between the flywheeland flywheel housing to push the crankshaft toward theflywheel to remove all end play. Put the dial indicator inthe "zero" position. Move the crankshaft to its mostforward position, and make a record of the TotalIndicator Reading (TIR). The TIR is the end play of thecrankshaft.FRONT OF GENERATOR3. Plate assembly. 4. Shim pack.3.Put plate assembly (3) in position in the bore of theflywheel to check for clearance. There must beclearance between the outside diameter of the plateassembly (3) and the inside diameter of the bore inthe flywheel.NOTICEDamage to the engine and/orgenerator can be the result if theelectric set is run with a plateassembly that does not have thisclearance.4.Install a full shim pack (4) and plate assembly (3) onthe generator with bolts (5).
