SERVICE MANUALEaton Brake Group (Fig. 7)Remove brake shoes as follows:1.Remove dust shields.2.With a bar, pry each shoe one at a time awayfrom the cam and lift out the rollers and pins.3.With the rollers removed, the shoe return springwill be loose and can be slipped off the linksbetween the shoe webs.4.Let lower shoe hang down.5.Lift off the lower shoe by unhooking it from thetwo retaining springs.6.Remove the two retaining springs and uppershoe.7.Mark position of slack adjuster in relation tocamshaft also noting the position of adjustingscrew. Adjusting screw may be either facingtoward or away from brake chamber mountingsurface.8.Disconnect clevis pin connecting brake chamberpush rod to slack adjuster.9.Remove lock ring retaining slack adjuster to endof camshaft.
