S-SERIES INSTRUMENTSINTRODUCTIONInstruments used on S-Series trucks include voltmeter, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, water temperaturegauge, speedometer, tachometer and air or vacuumgauges, plus oil, water, brake and power divider lockwarning lights. All of these instruments are located on the instrumentpanel in a demountable instrument cluster (Figure 1)directly in front of the driver. Gauges and panel lights ofthe cluster are connected to the vehicle electrical systemby a flexible printed circuit.Optional gauges for such other items as engine oiltemperature, transmission oil temperature, hour meter, etc. are located to the right of heater controls in aseparate panel. Optional gauges are wired independentof the printed circuit.INSTRUMENT CLUSTERThe instrument cluster is a reliable, quick-disconnectpackage for the most commonly used instruments.Should the need arise, cluster body can be quicklydetached from the instrument panel for quick access toany of its components. Either the complete clusterassembly or its components can be replaced.CAUTION - ALWAYS DISCONNECT BATTERYNEGATIVE (GROUND) CABLE BEFORE SERVICINGINSTRUMENT CLUSTER OR ITS COMPONENTS.REMOVAL OF COMPLETE CLUSTER1.Unscrew the four cluster mounting Screws.2.Tilt or lift out cluster assembly from instrumentpanel (Figure 2).Figure 1 S-Series Instruments (Typical)Gauges which read totally metric are also available.CTS-4140Y Page 2
