SR 4 GENERATORDISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLYROTOR ASSEMBLYREMOVE ROTOR ASSEMBLY(HORIZONTAL METHOD) 4457-11start by:a) remove generator from engineb) remove control panel1.Remove plates (1), shims (3), and fan (2) fromthe front of generator.2.Install pieces of cardboard or sheet metal (4)between the rotor assembly and the statorassembly. Be sure the pieces are as long as therotor assembly.3.Remove the louvers and panels from the back ofgenerator. Remove the bolts that hold theretainers for the bearing. Disconnect wires F1and F2 from the regulator assembly.4.Remove the bolts for the cover. Install twoguide bolts (5) with 1/2"-13 NC threads,approximately 10 in. (250 mm) long. Connect ahoist to the cover. Push the cover from thebearing with two 3/8"-16 NC forcing bolts.Remove the cover.NOTICEDo not damage the stationary exciterfield, which is part of the cover, whenremoving the cover.5.Fasten a hoist to the back of shaft.6.Put a steel pipe (7) on the end of shaft, to theinside of hub.NOTE: Be sure the pipe is longenough to go through thegenerator.7.Remove rotor assembly (6) out the back ofgenerator with a hoist.NOTICEKeep the rotor assembly level at alltimes during removal. This willprevent damage to the armaturewindings in the generator.145
