Seal should be bottomed in seal borebut be careful not to crush seal cage.6.After cleaning flange to pump mating surfaces,reinstall pump mounting flange (gear drivenpumps only) using a new O-ring. Tightenmounting bolts to specified torque.Reinstall drive coupling and nut (some units alsohave a washer) if so equipped and tighten tospecified torque.7.Reinstall pump on vehicle. See INSTALLA-TION AND REMOVAL section of this manual.DISASSEMBLYBefore disassembly of pump, remove reservoir fillercap and drain oil from reservoir by inverting the pump sooil may drain out the filler neck.After oil is drained from reservoir, cap should bereplaced and the entire pump assembly washed in anon-toxic solvent to remove all dirt and prevent anyforeign matter from contaminating pump components.IMPORTANTExamine exposed part of drive shaft. If it iscorroded, use crocus cloth to removecorrosion before disassembling pump. Thiswill prevent damage to the shaft bushingwhich might require replacement of theentire housing.1.Place pump in a bench vise using the mount- ingflange (gear driven pump) or mounting bracket(belt driven pump) to hold pump.IMPORTANTDo not clamp vise on pump housing orreservoir.2.Mark location of reservoir on pump housing toprovide proper location during reassembly3.Remove reservoir retaining nuts, Figure 12.Fig. 12 Remove Rationing Nuts1Reservoir Retaining Nuts4.Remove reservoir by rapping the side of thereservoir with the hand until the reservoir rotatesslightly on the pump housing.IMPORTANTDo not pry on reservoir flange to removereservoir.CTS-4027 - Page 12
