TM 5-3895-370-14&P 5-24. TAPPET COVER REPLACEMENT. This task covers: a. Removal b. Cleaning/Inspection c. Installation INITIAL SETUP Tools Equipment Condition Tool kit, general mechanic's: equipment TM or Para Condition Description maintenance and repair Para 4-27 Breather tube removed. Para 4-41 Fuel return lines Wrench, torque removed. Para 4-46 Fuel filter head removed. Materials/Parts Para 5-31 Fuel injection pump Tags, identification (item 52, Appendix E) removed. Cloth, lint-free (item 12, Appendix E) Solvent, drycleaning (item 50, Appendix E) Grommet seals (2) Push rod cover gasket a. Removal. NOTE Two of four screws were removed with fuel return lines. (1) Remove two screws (1) and grommets (2). Discard grommets. (2) Remove tappet cover (3) from engine block (4). (3) Remove breather baffle (5) and gasket (6) from tappet cover (3). Discard gasket. 5-56
